The Nebraska Department of Health is responsible for approving CNA classes in Nebraska. In order to be eligible for enrollment in one of these classes, a student should at least be sixteen years old and should be able to read and write in English. Aspirants, who desire to be employed in adult day care centers, healthcare organizations for mentally retarded people, rehabilitation centers, home health agencies, long-term care facilities, acute hospital units, assisted living, long-term hospital units, respite services and hospice, must complete seventy five hours of classroom training from an accredited CNA class and pass the state-conducted competency examination. Out of seventy five hours, at least 16 hours should be dedicated to clinical practice
After completing the CNA class, the student becomes eligible to apply for CNA Certification in Nebraska. Thereafter, when the student gains CNA certification, he gets added to the Nurse Aide Registry of Nebraska, which is maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services.
