How to get a CNA card Updated?

CNA card renewal is essential to continue your career as a certified nurse aide. If your nurse assistant card or certificate gets expired, you would not be able to work further. Read on the article to gather information about the renewal of CNA card/certification.

Renewal of certified nursing assistant card- Basic information

All CNAs must have the following fundamental information about the renewal of their certification-

  • You must renew or update your license after every 2 years of its issue.
  • If you have worked as a nurse aide in the past 2 years, you can update your license without retaking the certification exam.
  • If you have not worked as a nurse aide in the past 2 years, you can still update your license by retaking the training program and certification exam conducted by the state.
  • The licensing board of your state is authorized for renewing the CNA certifications.
  • Whenever your nurse aide card is about to terminate, you will get a notice from the Board of Nursing of your state, reminding you about the renewal.
  • The renewal fee is different in different states.
  • You can get you renewed card within 120 days of submitting the renewal form.

Procedure to renew CNA card

You can update your nursing assistant license both online and offline.

  • Contact the nursing board of your state. You can fill the renewal form online, if your state permits. For online renewal, you must have your certification number.
  • If online renewal is not permitted, you can receive the renewal form via mail on request.
  • Before filling the form, read the instructions carefully.
  • Fill all the required details in the form. Put date and sign the form. You have to provide your test results and training proof along with the form. Get the second part of the form filled by the current or previous (last 2 years) employer.
  • After completing the form, send it to the nursing board of the state. Ensure that you have mentioned the correct mailing address.
  • Don’t forget to send the money order or cheque as the renewal fees, along with the form.
  • Submit the renewal form as soon as possible, to get the updated card quickly.
  • You can check your renewal status online.
  • You can get temporary sanction for continuing your work.
  • If you have not rendered your services for the past 2 years, then re-enroll in the training program and retake the state licensing exam, for renewing your expired certificate.
